While Derek and Camille crossed the Pacific, Leah met with lawyers, accountants, and a former employee who had uncovered suspicious company transactions. Investigators determined that Derek and Camille had allegedly been involved in questionable payments and were also planning to persuade Leah to sign documents giving Derek significant authority over her family’s voting shares. The company board suspended him, froze his corporate access, and preserved the records while Leah’s attorneys filed for divorce.
When Derek landed in Maui, his company email no longer worked, his corporate cards were disabled, and missed calls filled his phone. Then Leah’s scheduled message arrived. She told him she had never boarded the plane, knew what was inside Camille’s supposed “business report,” and would not sign anything. At the resort, their cards were declined and the honeymoon suite—booked under Leah’s name—was unavailable to them.
The investigation soon revealed millions of dollars in disputed company funds and messages suggesting Camille had been an active participant. Derek later returned to New York and tried convincing Leah to help stop the investigation. She refused, reminding him that she had not created the invoices, moved the money, or brought another woman onto their honeymoon carrying documents intended to undermine her control of the business.
Months later, the investigation continued through the courts, while Leah was asked to become interim CEO. One year after the wedding, she finally traveled to Hawaii again—this time with her sister. Sitting barefoot by the ocean, she raised a glass to the honeymoon she should have had. Derek had expected Leah to quietly accept whatever he decided. Instead, his attempt to bring his secretary along became the moment Leah stopped financing his deception and began choosing her own future.
